3 Things That Made Me Happy This Week
A new quarantine series
Shit’s hard right now, yo, and it’s important to find moments of joy and levity wherever we can. So I’ve decided to start a weekly series where I’ll share three things that made me happy. Enjoy!
1. Oh, Hello: The P’dcast
A few weeks ago, John Mulaney dropped a bomb in my Twitter feed by announcing a new surprise (at least, to me) podcast featuring him and Nick Kroll as their “Oh, Hello” alter-egos, George St. Geegland and Gil Faizon (charmed, I’m sure).
In it, George and Gil team up with the likes of Ira Glass, Sarah Koenig, John Oliver, Pete Davidson and others to investigate the real story behind Princess Diana’s death. Sort of.
The episodes are short (about 20 minutes) and are a welcome, hilarious distraction from our current timeline.
10/10 will continue to awkwardly laugh out loud while listening through headphones.
2. my Favorite Sleep Meditation
Yes, yes, yes - I know this is mundane, but hey, it’s honest. I have a tendency to fight sleep at night, especially when things are busy or stressful or my anxiety kicks in. My friend turned me onto the Simple Habit meditation app, which has an entire section dedicated to meditations for sleep (plus bedtime stories for the kiddos!). I’ve tried a few of them, but once I landed on my favorite, it’s become my go-to. It’s the “Soothing Sleep” series with Glenn Harrold, specifically the “Binaural Deep Sleep Hypnosis” session. It helps me relax and avoid the “ahh why am I not falling asleep?? Now I’m too stressed about not falling asleep to fall asleep!” cycle.
A useful tool for anyone who needs a little help “turning it off” at the end of the day.
3. Binging Parks and Rec on Netflix
What better time than during a Shelter in Place to catch up on an entire series you missed the first time around? I have watched four seasons in under two weeks and I am officially in.
And just in time for the announcement that the cast is reuniting for a special quarantine episode!
